Everything and everyone seems to stand in my way to make the film I have written(It feels like a frickin test from God).I am trying to make one of those classic monster movies in good taste, so I make a nice big evil monster just to have someone say I cant make it unless I have a big wad of cash for the liquid latex to actually turn the clay pieces into something I can use. The summers coming up and we need to start filming but I cant and I am really pissed off.Sorry to you people who have read this and become board of my moaning, but damn it you cant trust anyone. I think you get the point...

That's a very negative attitude although i know what you mean , just as an idea , rather than give up , does the script allow for the monster to not be seen ie a few careful re writes , perhaps the suggestion of the creature , build up the tension etc and just show small body parts of it (cheaper) rather than the whole creature ?? you know the "less is sometimes more" angle..

    That is complete bollocks.
    1. You DON'T have to have a big wad of cash to make a film. (That is why almost EVERYONE IS ON HERE... Think LOW BUDGET!)
    2. You don't have to use liquid latex to make your monster... Think Cardboard, paper mache, old rags, tin foil, etc... You CAN make a cheap monster without having to use what the "Professionals" use.
    3. You don't have to use the most expensive, top bollocks DV/SUPERDUPER HI-8 or whatever. Just grab your camcorder (or your dads, your friends, ANYONES) and go out and film it!
    3. You don't have to spend loads on an edit machine. You can get a cheap Video capture card for your computer, and I'm sure you'll be able to get a copy of an editing package from someone.
    4. WHO CARES what anyone says... It's YOUR film, it's YOUR ideas, and it really pisses ME off when people try to critisise other peoples ideas. As long as YOUR happy, it doesn't matter.

Sorry about the swearing, but I think it was done in the proper context.

Keep your chin up, your camera wirring and...

    Exclamation

You do learn as time goes on that *everything* costs money.

You should at least have expected to pay material costs unless otherwise agreed?

Now, I dunno how much of a wad liquid latex costs, but, depending where in the UK you are, it may be worth you getting a quote from this chap:

    mailto:[email protected]

or visit his LRP-centric site, www.valleyforge.co.uk

    Good luck with your monster!!

i have made a monster for one of my stop-animation films and its made of foam(like any fine course foam ex: old couch pillows) put to shape by wire( coat hangers)and covered by acylic latex paint(normal latex paint like from K-mart). I got good results, and once you have a nice thick under coating you can have a beautiful effect if you mix pigments and water and create thin layers of pigmet ,just get several colors(the three primarys(red, blue, and yellow) and white and you can make any color). now this might not work for you because if you need it to be ulta flexable it has a chance of spliting, but it worked good for my needs and it cost basicaly no money. because $ = shit!

.......there are always ten hunderd billon other ways of doing this thing, and some cheap way is bound to work!!!!.......

    Hi Gums

I wonder if you've made any decisions yet about your monster. Latex doesn't actually cost a huge amount of money and if someone is asking for a wad, then you're being ripped off. There are also ways around it. For instance, the monster may have a shell of latex to use as the skin, but underneath it all could be a very material. I used some false tissue that I made on the cheap to fill out a hand that I needed to build. The actual amount of latex used for the skin was neglible.

If you need any help at all, please email, I'm sure we could get something sortid out.

    Simon
